MMS Conference: From Innovation to Scale: Advancing the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Young People

Collectively, young people have urgent and vast needs for policies and programs that ensure their improved sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). There are numerous innovative initiatives and projects to improve young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights and we want to hear about them.

Young people face considerable challenges in addressing their SRHR needs, encompassing prevention of unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, early marriage, and sexual coercion and violence. In many countries in the global South there is an overarching issue exacerbating these SRHR challenges which is the lack of solutions tailored to the youth's unique needs and societal contexts.

The landscape is further beset by the lack of youth-friendly SRHR services, identified as a national policy priority, yet remains largely unaddressed due to limited data on service utilization among adolescents and insufficient training for healthcare practitioners in providing SRHR services. Stigmatization surrounding SRHR topics and the habitual lack of cooperation from parents or caregivers serve as substantial deterrents to the provision and utilization of SRHR services.

Despite the significant progress in SRHR for young people topics around sexuality remain stagnant due to social norms, stigma, discrimination and taboos. Innovative approaches are needed to reach young people and to improve their access to SRHR:

The MMS Conference 2024 on sexual and reproductive health and rights will explore what kind of locally led and low cost innovations are in place to reach young people, who are the drivers of such projects and initiatives and how can these locally led innovations be scaled up.

Target audience: national and international Public Health professionals, project leaders, researchers and all those who are interested.
